Our man in Kyushu, Naoyuki Baba, keeps you up to date on all the finest restaurants, hot springs and arts and crafts products that Kyushu has to offer.
Until 2012, I was the editor-in-chief of Onsen Hakase, a magazine devoted to profiling the best hot springs in Japan. I traveled extensively, eating, drinking and bathing very well! After 13 years, my personal top three are Hirayama Onsen (Kumamoto pref.), Yunotsu Onsen (Shimane pref.) and Arima Onsen (Hyogo pref.).
I started working as a freelance writer in 2013. I report on hot springs, restaurants and travel for various magazines, newspapers and websites. I’m also involved in supporting the traditional crafts of Kyushu, by writing about them and by organizing workshops that bring together traditional craftspeople with modern designers.
